Australia’s Bushfires “Unforgiving”

INTERNATIONAL: Firefighters are continuing to battle out-of-control bushfires throughout Western Australia today as temperatures soar above 38 degrees, wreaking havoc across the state.

Western Australia’s Premier Mark McGowan has addressed the media today, describing the blazes as "unforgiving". "The conditions have been unforgiving, strong winds mixed with sweltering conditions. People have been risking their lives to save properties and animals that belong to complete strangers."

He said that of the two major fires burning, each have now each been contained in Perth Hills, but one is yet to be controlled.

"I want to acknowledge the firefighters and other workers who are sacrificing team time with their families to battle the bushfire emergency.”

Aerial vision shows burnt houses, sheds and vehicles. Blackened trees and bushland were also seen where the fire moved through.

"It's obviously an anxious time for people caught up in the emergency, especially given last year's bushfire catastrophe that destroyed 86 homes," Western Australia premier has said.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson has appealed for public information while the cause of the fire was being investigated by police.
